Idiopathic scoliosis is defined as a lateral curvature of the spine of more than 10 degrees, combined with rotation of the spine, without other organic diseases. Scoliosis is a common and frequent disease that affects children and adolescents in China. According to rough statistics: China currently has 3 million scoliosis patients, 28,000 new cases each year, and only 20% of timely treatment, scoliosis is more common in adolescents, the incidence of 1-3%, of which idiopathic scoliosis accounts for more than 85% of the total number of scoliosis patients, the incidence of male to female ratio of 0.51:1. The disease generally appears at about 12 years of age, with age and Scoliosis increases with age. Currently, scoliosis, together with mental health and myopia, constitute the three major problems affecting the healthy growth of adolescents. However, it has not yet attracted much attention from families, schools and society. In recent years, the survey data made by domestic authoritative medical institutions show more and more clearly: the incidence of scoliosis among primary and secondary school students in China is on the rise. The early symptoms of the disease are not obvious, but if left untreated, it can develop and aggravate to cause serious deformities, affecting the physical and mental health of patients. In general, scoliosis occurs mostly in the thoracolumbar segment, and pulmonary dysfunction may occur when its Cobb’s angle exceeds 60°, and most scoliosis above 90° has restrictive ventilatory impairment due to its severe chest deformity, and cardiac dysfunction may occur as scoliosis worsens. Some patients with scoliosis have significant trunk deviation and unequal shoulders, which seriously affects aesthetics. Idiopathic scoliosis is generally unlikely to cause paralysis, but may only cause paralysis if its Cobb’s angle exceeds 100°. The key to the treatment of this disease is early detection and early treatment to avoid serious development of the deformity, resulting in physical and mental disability of the child.
