Xianhe Cao has the effects of astringency and hemostasis (the use of drugs with astringent properties to treat bleeding conditions), stopping malaria, stopping dysentery, detoxification, and tonifying deficiency, and there is no evidence that it can be used to stop sweating. Xianhecao, also known as crane grass buds, is the dried above-ground part of the plant Longdaoqiao, family Rosaceae, with a bitter taste and flat nature. It has the efficacy of astringency, stopping bleeding, stopping dysentery and stopping malaria. In clinical practice, it is used with Radix et Rhizoma Shengdi to treat blood-heat paranoia (abnormal blood movement out of the body caused by heat); with Gun Jiang to treat deficiency-cold hemorrhage; with Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata and Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng to treat deficiency of qi and blood. There is no clinical evidence that it has the effect of stopping sweating. Common clinical herbs to stop sweating include ephedra root and floating wheat. Patients with qi deficiency (involuntary sweating during the day, aggravated by sweating with the slightest movement) can be treated with Yupingfeng San; patients with yin deficiency (abnormal sweating after going to sleep, stopping sweating after waking up) can be treated with Liufei Di Huang Wan. Patients who need medication should consult a Chinese medicine practitioner.
