Ways to prevent gout

Gout is caused by purine metabolism disorders and thus high blood uric acid. To prevent gout, you need to maintain blood uric acid at a normal level, including drinking more water, adjusting diet, strengthening exercise, taking uric acid-lowering drugs, and so on.

1. Drink more water: about 2/3 of uric acid is excreted through the kidneys. Drinking more than 2,000ml of water per day can increase the excretion of uric acid, thus reducing the level of uric acid in the blood.

2. Adjust diet: to prevent gout, we need to control the total calorie of diet, limit the consumption of alcohol and high purine food intake, common high purine food including animal offal, seafood, mushrooms and so on, in order to reduce the purine metabolism and produce uric acid.

3. Enhance exercise: maintain a proper amount of exercise every day, so as to strengthen the body’s metabolism, which is also conducive to reducing uric acid and preventing the occurrence of gout.

4. Take uric acid-lowering drugs: If the blood uric acid level is persistently high, you can follow the doctor’s instructions to use some uric acid-lowering drugs to prevent gout, such as allopurinol, benzbromarone, febuxostat and so on.

When there is joint pain, yellowish-white nodules around the ears or joints, you should be alert to the occurrence of gout, and you should go to the hospital in time for consultation and treatment under the guidance of the physician, and should not blindly use medication.
