Does ACL Reconstruction Surgery on the Knee Affect You?

Rehabilitation considerations for ACL knee reconstruction surgery are related to the stage of rehabilitation. The main ones include wearing a brace, avoiding pain, and premature and excessive weight training. Postoperative weeks 0 to 2: Avoid active knee extension 40° to 0°. Lock the brace at 0° when walking. Avoid prolonged standing and walking. 2~6 weeks postoperatively: avoid repeated descending of stairs until the muscle strength control of quadriceps muscle of thigh is recovered. Avoid pain during training and functional activities. After 6 weeks postoperatively: avoid pain during training and functional activities. Avoid early running and heavy exercise training until adequate muscle strength and surgeon’s permission is obtained. Rehabilitation after ACL reconstruction needs to be done under the guidance of a specialized surgeon to avoid delayed rehabilitation and secondary injuries.
