How long is it normal to have a period?

The normal duration of menstruation is around 3-7 days, with most women having it for 3-5 days. If the period is unusually long or short, it is usually important to consider a possible gynecological problem. Low menstrual flow is usually seen in women with ovarian insufficiency, severe anemia, uterine adhesions, endocrine disorders, etc. Prolonged menstruation is associated with pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, uterine fibroids, and abnormal endometrial hyperplasia. Some women who have had a birth control ring or a caesarean section may also have prolonged menstruation. Therefore, if the time of menstruation is different from the normal range, a gynecological examination is recommended.
