How to take care of prostate cancer after surgery?

Prostate cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors of the male genitourinary system. Early diagnosis and surgical treatment is currently the preferred method of treating prostate cancer. These 3 complications may occur after surgery, thus, it is necessary to take good care of post-surgery, and the following are the post-surgery care measures for prostate cancer. 1. Care of urethral anastomotic stricture If progressive thinning of the urinary line and difficulty in urination should be considered as possible urethral anastomotic stricture. Explain to the patient the method and necessity of urethral dilatation as well as the possible complications and pain caused to the body before dilatation, and ensure the cleanliness of the urethral orifice to avoid complications. 2, post-surgical erectile dysfunction care Surgery can damage the bilateral sexual vascular nerve bundle of the penis, and erectile dysfunction occurs. The nurse should listen to the patient with a sincere attitude and give effective psychological guidance to the patient who is worried about the loss of sexual ability and low self-esteem. 3, post-surgical incontinence care Post-surgical incontinence is due to damage or pulling of the urethral sphincter, which can lead to permanent incontinence or temporary incontinence. The patient’s inability to control urination seriously affects the quality of daily life, and long-term incontinence can easily lead to secondary urinary tract and perineal skin infections. Therefore, patients with temporary urinary incontinence after removal of the urinary catheter should be adequately prepared psychologically. In order to continue treatment after surgery, patients who have recovered from surgery can be asked to tell their own personal experiences to overcome post-surgical tension and anxiety and build confidence in treatment. Instruct patients to perform pelvic floor muscle exercises, i.e., lying flat on the bed to lower abdominal pressure and increase urethral closure pressure, while performing anal contraction.
