How old can kidney stones be expelled

Generally speaking, kidney stones less than 1 cm in diameter have the possibility of self-expulsion. Kidney stones are one of the common lesions in the urinary tract, and the cause is related to irregular diet or overeating in the patient’s daily life. After the appearance of kidney stones, patients may have symptoms such as abdominal pain, hematuria, frequent urination and urinary urgency, etc. They need to visit the urology department for a clear diagnosis through urinary routine, urinary ultrasound or CT examination. For stones less than 1cm in diameter, patients should be instructed to drink more water and exercise moderately. It is possible for stones to fall out of the renal calyces into the ureter and eventually be discharged from the urethra. For stones larger than 1 cm, it is more difficult for patients to expel them by themselves, and they may be embedded in the three physiological stenoses of the ureter, so it is necessary to choose the corresponding surgical plan with the clinical symptoms and lesions of the patients. In conclusion, patients with kidney stones must be instructed to eat a reasonable diet and eat less and more often to reduce the chance of stone recurrence.
