How does Chinese medicine treat hives?

Urticaria is a common disease in dermatology, which manifests clinically as a transient, limited edematous wind mass of varying size on the skin mucosa, accompanied by intense itching. Its etiology is complex, and the cause cannot be found in about 3/4 of patients. The pathogenesis of urticaria is not fully understood and is currently divided into two main categories: immune and non-immune.
Western medicine treats the disease mainly with anti-allergic and symptomatic treatment, which is often fast and short-lived, but if treatment is interrupted, urticaria tends to recur. Chinese medicine treats urticaria fundamentally by adjusting the balance of yin and yang in the body, and the effect is long-lasting when it works, but the effect is slower with Chinese medicine alone. Therefore, the combination of Chinese and Western medicine is a better clinical treatment for urticaria. According to the duration of the disease, it can be divided into two types: acute and chronic. Acute cases have an acute onset and are often cured within a short period of time, but severe cases can be accompanied by anaphylactic shock-like symptoms such as panic, irritability, nausea, vomiting and even lowered blood pressure. About 10% of patients with acute urticaria will turn into chronic urticaria. Chronic patients generally have milder systemic symptoms than acute ones, with recurrent episodes that extend over months and years, and occasional acute attacks. In addition, there are special types of urticaria caused by cold, heat, sunlight, friction, pressure and other physical stimuli, such as artificial urticaria, cold urticaria, cholinergic urticaria, solar urticaria, pressure urticaria and so on.
Chinese medicine calls this disease “addiction rash”, and believes that its cause is mostly due to the endowment of intolerance, the coup dense, external wind-heat, wind-cold, wind-damp evil or dietary disorder, over-eating spicy, thick-flavored products, resulting in spleen and stomach disorders, damp-heat trapped spleen, heat and wind or outside the guard is not solid, sweating by the wind or external evil for a long time into heat and injury to the yin liquid or plain weak, insufficient qi and blood. In addition, the wind evil attacked outside, depressed in the skin and hair between the muscle coup, so that the internal can not drain the external can not penetrate, the positive and the evil fight and rash, or mental tension and liver depression, loss of harmony between qi and blood, wind evil internal ambush and the onset. Acute clinical urticaria is mostly real, while chronic cases are mixed with deficiency and reality. The main treatment is to dispel the wind, but also to disperse cold, clear heat, cool the blood and detoxify the toxin, benefit the qi and fix the surface, nourish the blood and activate the blood, as well as clear the damp heat in the stomach and intestines, which can achieve better results.
  1.Chinese herbal medicine treatment
For the treatment of urticaria, especially chronic urticaria, the most common treatment is to benefit the Qi and blood, dispel the wind and relieve itching, and to dispel the wind and fix the surface and harmonize the Ying and Wei. The chronic urticaria is thought to be caused by the depletion of qi and blood over a long period of time, or by weakness and deficiency of qi and blood, due to the deficiency of blood and wind, deficiency of qi and guard, and lack of harmony between the camp and guard, so that the wind and evil invade the skin. Therefore, in addition to dispelling the wind in the treatment, paying attention to nourishing the blood, benefiting the qi and consolidating the surface can often achieve better results.
