Which hurts, liquid nitrogen freezing or laser, depends on whether the patient is anesthetized during the treatment. If neither is anesthetized, laser may hurt more. However, in the real treatment phase, cryotherapy does not require anesthesia, while laser treatment requires anesthesia, so cryotherapy may be more painful than laser. But after the laser treatment, if the anesthetic wears off it may also be painful. Therefore, no matter which treatment is used, the decision is mainly based on the patient’s acceptance level, and no patient gives up treatment because of which treatment is more painful. As long as the patient has indications, both of these options are available and need to be judged based on an interview with the clinician. In the case of common warts cryotherapy is sufficient and laser treatment is not required.
