Peripheral neuropathy can be treated surgically

Since 2010, when surgery for diabetic peripheral neuropathy was launched, there have been more than 500 cases, many of which have other causes or even unknown causes of peripheral neuropathy, and patients often move around to many hospitals in China, including many of the best neurology departments, but treatment is lacking. Indeed, the treatment of peripheral neuropathy is tricky, with certain mild cases being fairly sensitive to neurotrophic drugs, while many are simply ineffective. As is well known, the author initially carried out surgical means to treat diabetic peripheral neuropathy, and as the number of cases increased, some patients with peripheral neuropathy from other causes also requested surgical treatment, and the surgical results far exceeded estimates, and according to three years of statistics, all patients who had undergone surgery had varying degrees of improvement, most with significant improvement. Some patients who clearly had normal muscle strength in their lower extremities before surgery, but were unable to walk because of pain, numbness or severe deep sensory deficits and needed a wheelchair for walking, were able to get out of bed and resume walking two or three days after surgery. Now, it seems that although the cause of most peripheral neuropathies is difficult to specify (diabetic peripheral neuropathies are relatively easy to diagnose, while a large number of peripheral neuropathies (about 80%) have no clear cause at all), nerve entrapment should be an important part of the pathogenesis, which is often overlooked by physicians. Dellon determined back then that the indication for nerve decompression surgery was only diabetic peripheral neuropathies, and a large number of Dellon determined that the indication for nerve decompression surgery was only for diabetic peripheral neuropathy, but a large number of cases have shown that many cases of peripheral neuropathy that have failed to respond to drug therapy can also be treated surgically, and the results often far exceed drug therapy.
