Ultrasound examination may reveal an increase in the size of the gallbladder, fluid accumulation, or in severe cases, suppuration or even necrosis of the gallbladder, and there may be obvious signs of peritoneal irritation, pressure pain, rebound pain and muscle tension in the right upper abdomen.
