When is surgery required for the anterior macula

Macular pre-macular is usually done when the vision is lower or equal to 0.3. Some patients can’t tolerate the visual distortion caused by macular pre-macular, which affects their life and then do the surgery. Macular pre-macular is a thin film similar to cellophane glitter in front of the macula. A mild macular pre-macular can have no symptoms, but thickening and aggravation of the pre-macular will cause vision loss, distortion and deformation of visual objects. It can also occur secondary to a retinal fissure, retinal detachment or after retinal photocoagulation, condensation, or internal eye surgery. Macular anterior membrane can be clearly diagnosed by fundus examination with dilated pupils or OCT examination.
