The macula is located on the retina on the innermost surface of the eye, slightly below the temporal side of the optic disc of the optic nerve at the base of the eye about 0.35cm. The macula is the central area of human optometry, the center of human vision, and the center of seeing is the macula. Because the macula is rich in lutein, it is slightly darker than the surrounding retina, so it is called macula. There is a small depression in the center of the macula, called the central macular recess, which is the most sensitive place for vision. When the fundus of the eye is observed under normal conditions, the central hollow will appear as a reflective spot. In addition to being the center of sensitivity for human vision, the macula is also the center of stereoscopic and color vision. Diseases can appear in the macular region, and when they appear, they can seriously affect vision loss.
