Stenting of severe internal carotid artery stenosis

Ischemic cerebrovascular disease can be treated conservatively with drugs with certain efficacy, but there are limitations in the treatment effect of severe ischemic attack and cerebral infarction caused by severe stenosis of blood vessels. The use of endovascular interventions to dilate blood vessels and improve blood flow and blood supply can achieve definite results. Patient Nan, male, 65 years old, was admitted to the hospital with “sudden onset of left limb hemiparesis with unfavorable speech and blurred vision for 5 days”, and was diagnosed as “acute cerebral infarction in the right parietal lobe and hemi-oval center”. After 3 weeks of conventional conservative treatment, the patient’s left hemiplegia symptoms improved, but still left symptoms such as difficulty in moving the left upper limb distally, blurred vision, dizziness and discomfort. Ultrasound examination of the carotid artery showed that the stenosis of the right internal carotid artery was more than 80%. In order to obtain better results and prevent the recurrence or even deterioration of the disease, Dr. Jianren Liu, deputy chief physician, made adequate preoperative preparations and seized the opportunity to perform intravascular balloon dilation and stenting of the right internal carotid artery stenosis under local anesthesia, which resulted in a good reopening of the stenotic vessels and a significant improvement of cerebral blood flow. After the operation, the patient’s visual acuity was significantly improved, his speech was fluent, his dizziness and heaviness disappeared, and the movement of the right upper limb was improved.
