Identification of nephrogenic oedema requires a combination of where the oedema is prevalent, how soft or hard it is, whether it is well mobile and the accompanying symptoms. Because nephrogenic oedema is caused by kidney disease, it is more likely to be indurated and to occur in areas of loose tissue such as the eyelids, face or lower limbs. This oedema is soft and mobile. A urine test in hospital can initially determine the presence of nephrogenic oedema.
