What is splenic palpation?

Splenic palpation is usually used to check whether the spleen is normal or not, mainly through one hand or both hands to touch the spleen, the examination should be carried out under the guidance of specialized doctors. Splenic palpation is an auxiliary method of spleen examination. Firstly, the patient is asked to take a supine position, with both arms raised and both hands placed behind the pillow, and then the doctor’s left hand goes around the patient’s abdomen, asks the patient to turn slightly sideways, and then puts the left hand on the 9th to 11th rib of the left lower chest, trying to lift the patient’s spleen from the back to the front and restricting the thoracic movement. The palm of the right hand was placed flat on the umbilicus, and the spleen was touched from the umbilicus level in the roughly vertical direction of the left costal arch until the left rib margin. Under normal circumstances, the spleen cannot be touched, and the normal spleen is usually soft, with neat edges and no pressure or friction.
