How to Know the Right Time for PSA Screening?

Serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) values are affected by many factors, so the timing of PSA testing should be good in order to obtain relatively accurate results.

Specifically:

  • 24 hours after ejaculation
  • 48 hours after cystoscopy, catheterization, and other operations,
  • rectal palpation of the prostate, prostate massage 1 week later,
  • Prostate puncture 1 month later.

In addition, PSA testing should be performed without acute prostatitis, urinary retention, or other conditions, and fever can also affect PSA values.

So, if you have recently experienced any of these conditions, you should talk to your doctor about it and get a PSA test at another appropriate time.
