Popular knowledge about diabetes

Recently, there was a news report that a 20-year-old male, 180 cm in height and 100 kg in weight, was said by his family to be physically fit, and that his father and uncle had diabetes. However, after drinking a total of about 60 bottles of carbonated drinks for three days, the living man became hyperglycemic and died of ketoacidosis and liver and kidney failure. …… This story tells us that people should drink less carbonated drinks, otherwise the living man will become diabetic in three days and then will lose their lives. Is this really the case?
Who is mainly responsible for the occurrence of diabetes?
  1.Irrational lifestyle
Diet: Who says eating “well” means eating “healthy”?
The United States has a scoring system for evaluating the quality of a comprehensive diet called the Healthy Eating Index (HEI). The lower the score of a diet, the more it deviates from the recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines of the United States (DGA), which means that the diet is not good for health.
In recent years, numerous long-term studies conducted in several countries around the world have proven that people with lower HEI scores than others are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes.
When you see this, you must raise your hand: “Nowadays, life is so advanced, how can the food be worse? In fact, the material abundance brought to us by economic development is, on the contrary, making our lives more unhealthy. For example, every month just after the payday, you will not “rub a meal”, to eat big fish and meat? The cooking method of cooking with water has long gone out of fashion, and deep-frying, frying and baking are the first choice after payday!
In addition, “money” also allows us to process grains more carefully. During this process, the vitamins and dietary fiber on the skin of grains are often lost in large quantities, which makes them raise blood sugar much faster, and the blood sugar after meals will then become higher and rise faster. At the same time, the health benefits of vegetables and fruits because “not as good as meat” and sit on the bench, sad to mold, spoil, and then be thrown away.
All of the above is a reflection of the ‘poor quality of diet’!
This is one of the major reasons why the incidence of diabetes is exploding in a country like China, where the economy is rising rapidly.
Moreover, even if you eat a balanced diet and just eat too much, you may still be at increased risk of developing diabetes due to excessive intake of fat and refined carbohydrates.
As for the common phrase “too much sugar”, it is rarely the only factor in the development of diabetes in patients who are first diagnosed with the disease.
Exercise: too little exercise + long sitting time
Diabetes, a disease traditionally thought to be “eaten out”, has nothing to do with the amount of exercise and time spent sitting still.
The direct consequence of too little exercise is too little energy consumption. As we all know, each month’s salary is not spent, the number in the bank book will increase. The day’s energy is not spent, the body turns them into fat and glycogen storage (in human terms is to grow flesh).
Obesity can cause “insulin resistance”, so fat people have a higher risk of getting type 2 diabetes than normal-sized people.
Sitting still for long periods of time, such as sitting still in front of a computer or TV for long periods of time, or sitting on a bed/chair playing with a cell phone or tablet, is also a risk factor for diabetes, which I guess many people don’t know. Moreover, an important feature of excessive sedentary time as a risk factor is that it acts independently of exercise time. That is, suppose there are twins living in the same household, and the older sister and the younger sister eat exactly the same, if the older sister sits in front of a computer, phone, or tablet for 10 hours a day during the day and rarely gets up to move, then even if she squeezes in 2 hours a night to go to the gym, the risk of diabetes may still be slightly higher than that of the younger sister who is at home every day doing chores from morning to night and does not have time to sit still continuously.
In contrast, existing research suggests that even a small amount of light to moderate exercise (e.g., 30 minutes of brisk walking) per day, combined with frequent “interruptions” of prolonged sedentary activity, such as standing up and walking for a few minutes every hour at work, can be effective in preventing type 2 diabetes.
In addition to the above two major factors, smoking, alcohol abuse, and even sleep rhythm disorders and poor sleep quality are also risk factors for type 2 diabetes.
  2.Body’s own biological characteristics
  (1) Obesity
Irrational diet and exercise habits often lead to obesity, and obesity can easily cause insulin resistance. Since insulin resistance is the pathological basis of type 2 diabetes, obesity is equivalent to leading diabetes directly to the door. Moreover, when BMI is the same, “central obese” people with a fat waist and abdomen are more likely to experience higher levels of insulin resistance than “peripheral obese” people with more fat on their limbs, and thus have a higher risk of developing diabetes.
Unfortunately, the Chinese, as a Mongolian race, have almost the strongest propensity for central obesity in the world. And, unlike the fortunate Africans, the Chinese population does have a higher incidence of metabolic diseases such as diabetes in those who are centrally obese.
Therefore, Chinese people are already at the same risk of disease as the overweight and obese Caucasians even before they reach the WHO standard for overweight and obesity.
Therefore, although WHO stipulates that BMI ≥ 25.0 kg/m? is considered overweight and BMI ≥ 30.0 kg/m? is considered obese, the working group on obesity in China believes that Chinese people should be judged as overweight when BMI ≥ 24.0 kg/m? and should be treated as obese when BMI ≥ 28.0 kg/m? so that effective interventions can be started in time.
  (2) Family history
Although type 2 diabetes is not hereditary as type 1 diabetes is determined by several genes, it still has a certain genetic predisposition, which makes type 2 diabetes family aggregation. Foreign studies have shown that the prevalence of diabetes in children of families where one parent has type 2 diabetes is 3 to 10 times higher than in those without a family history of diabetes. If both parents have the disease, the prevalence of the disease in their children is as high as
25%.
Therefore, if one of your parents has diabetes, you as a child should take care of them as well as your own health.
Is it true that drinking a lot of sugary drinks in a short period of time can make a healthy person “get diabetes in three days”?
Now let’s go back to the poor young man at the beginning of our story. Note the two main characteristics of this young man.
  (1) height 180 cm, weight 100 kg, which means BMI = 30.9 kg/m2, which is obese.
  (2) His father and uncle are diabetic and have a family history of diabetes.
Obesity and family history, both of which are well-known risk factors for type 2 diabetes. Considering that his blood glucose rose to an exaggerated value of 96.54 mmol/L, we can infer that it is likely that he had a reduced glucose tolerance or at least insulin resistance before drinking the drink. So, how can type 2 diabetes be so easy to develop quickly? To put the entire cause of this poor young man’s death on carbonated beverages is simply a power dump!
Of course, you can’t think that if you don’t drink carbonated beverages, you won’t get diabetes.
In fact, the young man was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes by his doctor, so from his performance when he drank the drink, he may have been in a state of “ketoacidosis” at that time.
What is the best way to prevent type 2 diabetes?
There are so many risk factors that have been mentioned earlier, so you can prevent it by “treating” them properly.
  1. Control your diet
The actual fact is that you will be able to get a good deal on your own, and you’ll be able to get a good deal on your own. Economically developed with money on hand every day to eat barbecue and other restaurants to come less yo.
2, pay attention to adjust the exercise habits
Long periods of sedentary must be interrupted, such as every hour to get up and move around. A common method is to use a smaller volume of water cups, so that every few minutes the water is finished you will get up to get water.
To and from work can ride a bike, don’t drive, can walk, don’t ride a bike, walk so little. Folk proverb says: walk every day, live to 99, this is a truth yo.
Of course, people who are already obese in the process of walking exercise, pay attention to protect the knee and hip joints, such as buying soft cushioned shoes.
  3, understand their family history
Mom and dad have diabetes, or their own body is more obese, they must spur themselves to be stricter than others to demand their lives. It is difficult to change the “susceptibility” we have acquired through heredity, but our own lifestyle can be controlled.
