Adenoid cystic carcinoma of the salivary gland

Adenoid cystic carcinoma, also known as chylindroma, was first reported by Billroth, and most people believe that the tumor comes from the ducts of the salivary glands, but may also come from the basal cells of the oral mucosa. Adenoid cystic carcinoma accounts for 5% to 10% of salivary gland tumors and 24% of salivary gland malignancies, with submandibular and sublingual glands being the first malignant tumors. The main pathological characteristics of adenoid cystic carcinoma are neurophilic invasion and easy distant metastasis. At present, most of the adenoid cystic carcinoma advocates the use of surgery combined with radiotherapy as the main comprehensive treatment, but its efficacy is still unsatisfactory.
