Facial palsy (in this case, idiopathic peripheral facial nerve palsy) is a facial project. Although facial palsy is not fatal, it is disfiguring if not treated properly. Recently, there have been more questions about facial palsy on the Internet, and although some of them have been answered, they are not comprehensive. The following is my experience on the key issues of facial palsy treatment. The best time for treatment of facial palsy is within 48 hours of the onset of facial palsy. During this time, if treated effectively, the damage to the facial nerve from inflammation can be controlled and local inflammatory edema eliminated, so that the damage to the facial nerve is reduced to a minimum and recovery is basically possible. 2.Treatment principle of facial palsy The treatment principle of facial palsy is to improve local blood circulation, reduce facial nerve edema, relieve nerve pressure and promote nerve function recovery. (1) The drug of choice for acute facial nerve palsy is the early use of corticosteroids (i.e. hormones), such as prednisone, in sufficient quantity for a short period of time and gradually reducing the dosage. Generally speaking, short-term use of hormones does not cause side effects such as obesity and bone changes. (2) B vitamins can promote the recovery of nerve myelin, vitamin B1, B12 (adenosine cobalamin, methylcobalamin) intramuscular injection. (3) Facial palsy caused by herpes zoster is treated with additional antiviral drugs. (4) Preferred acupuncture treatment for facial palsy Acupuncture can improve local circulation and eliminate neuroedema. The author believes that early use, especially with warm acupuncture, is effective in promoting facial nerve function repair. 5.Explanation of the time of appearance of facial spasm Facial spasm appears within one month of onset and is not continuous, which is a signal of recovery of facial palsy. If it appears after 3 months of onset, it mostly indicates that the patient has serious facial nerve damage and less than ideal recovery, and there will be sequelae of facial palsy.
