Health-related diseases
Insomnia: See a TCM practitioner. Most insomnia is a functional disorder, and Chinese medicine can treat it from the perspective of qi and blood, yin and yang, etc., which has better curative effect. Western drugs of sedative and sleeping type can easily lead to dependence and can only be taken for a short time.
Other subhealth states: states with no abnormal indicators such as western biochemical tests, such as physical weakness, irritability, loss of appetite and other subhealth symptoms, can be regulated by TCM.
Migraine: See a TCM doctor. First of all, check to clarify the cause, and after excluding organic problems, take Chinese medicine to regulate. Most migraines have no etiology and are functional disorders for which Western medicine has no better solution.
Common diseases
Colds: Both Chinese and Western medicine can be used. The vast majority of colds are viral infections, but sometimes they are accompanied by bacterial infections. In terms of antiviral treatment, Chinese medicine is more advantageous than Western medicine, while in terms of bacterial infection, Western medicine is more targeted in antibacterial treatment. If the symptoms of high fever, cough and headache are heavy, you should first check the blood routine and chest X-ray, etc. to clarify the cause and help guide the medication.
Cervical spondylosis: Chinese medicine is preferred. Tui Na physiotherapy is a major feature in the treatment of this disease, and it is even more advantageous when combined with Chinese medicine for toning. It is important to note that because of the risk of improper massage, you must choose a regular Chinese medicine hospital and not just go to a small clinic with unknown details.
The lumbar intervertebral disc herniation: both Chinese and Western medicine can. More often than not, traditional Chinese medicine with physical therapy is more effective, and western medicine mainly has advantages in surgical treatment.
Facial palsy recovery: Chinese medicine is preferred. Western medicine is not particularly good, but acupuncture with physiotherapy is more reliable.
Rhinorrhea: Both Chinese and Western medicine can be used. After first examining the cause and excluding organic problems (such as trauma, tumor, malformation, blood disease, etc.), Chinese medicine can be used for recuperation.
Ophthalmologic diseases: Western medicine is the mainstay. Western medicine has strong advantages in examination, surgical correction, and ophthalmic preparations, while Chinese medicine has auxiliary effects in improving symptoms such as dry eyes and swollen and painful eyes.
Oral diseases: Western medicine is preferred. Western dentistry is well equipped with relevant medical devices and has obvious advantages in surgical orthopedics and treatment. Some non-organic lesions such as mouth ulcers and swollen gums can be treated by TCM.
Indigestion: Chinese medicine is preferred. By regulating the spleen and stomach as a whole, the effect is more consolidated.
Constipation: Chinese medicine is preferred. Western medicine is more short-lived for constipation and can only be used as an emergency measure. Do not take too many laxatives to avoid drug dependence.
Cardiovascular diseases (hypertension, heart disease, stroke, cerebral infarction): Western medicine is the mainstay. Western medicine has reliable evidence of efficacy in controlling blood pressure and improving vascular obstruction. Chinese medicine plays a role mainly in improving patient-specific symptoms and can be used in conjunction with treatment.
Skin diseases
Acne: A combination of Western and Chinese medicine. Although Western medicine is fast-acting in anti-inflammatory and oil control, the side effects are equally obvious and should not be used for a long time; TCM regulates from the whole body and has a moderate but long-lasting effect, which can be treated with a combination of Chinese and Western medicine.
The actual fact is that you can find a lot of people who are not able to get a good deal on this.
Herpes zoster: both Chinese and Western medicine. Herpes zoster is caused by a viral infection, and there are no specific medications for the virus in Western medicine. The efficacy of Chinese and Western medicine is similar, but care should be taken to prevent complications and sequelae.
Foot fungus: both Chinese and Western medicine can be used. The effect of topical treatment is generally good, but Western medicine has targeted antifungal drugs, and for stubborn cases, Chinese and Western medicines work together for better treatment.
Idiopathic alopecia, baldness: Chinese medicine is preferred. The cause of these diseases is generally unknown and not easily treated by Western medicine. Chinese medicine is effective in treating these diseases from the perspective of deficiency of qi and blood, deficiency of internal organs, phlegm, dampness and heat stasis.
Eczema, dermatitis and other allergic skin diseases: both Chinese and Western medicine can be used, depending on the examination to determine the specific treatment plan. For allergic diseases with clear allergic causes, such as contact dermatitis and drug dermatitis, western medicine should be used to quickly control the disease and avoid triggering factors. For diseases with complex causes and easy recurrence such as eczema, chronic urticaria, etc., western medicine should be used to control the disease and be used in conjunction with traditional Chinese medicine for long-term maintenance.
Gynecological diseases
Infectious diseases (such as pelvic inflammatory disease, vaginitis, etc.): both Chinese and Western medicine are available. Both have curative effects. However, for acute attacks with clear pathogenic microorganisms, anti-infection treatment with Western medicine is effective. Chinese medicine is more effective for some chronic recurrent inflammatory diseases.
Infertility: First of all, we should look for the cause carefully and then determine whether to seek Chinese medicine or Western medicine. For those with clear organic lesions such as blocked fallopian tubes, Western medicine is more effective, but for most functional lesions, Chinese medicine is unique.
Primary dysmenorrhea: see a TCM doctor. Western medicine is not effective in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea, which is mostly symptomatic treatment. Chinese medicine is more effective in treating the symptoms.
Menstrual disorders: see a TCM practitioner. Most of them are functional disorders, and the effect is more obvious with Chinese medicine.
Menopausal syndrome: Combination of Chinese and Western medicine. Western medicine treatment is more obvious in some populations, and TCM long-term conditioning is safer.
Pediatric diseases
Chinese medicine and Western medicine have their own advantages and disadvantages. Children’s diseases generally start rapidly and change rapidly. For new diseases, it is recommended that Western medicine be preferred to clarify the nature of the disease and control it quickly, and for the period of adjustment of chronic diseases, Chinese medicine can be chosen. In addition, TCM massage is also effective for some pediatric diseases.
Tumors and other major diseases
Western medicine is preferred. The key to such diseases is early detection and early treatment. Western medicine is preferred to clarify the nature and progress of the disease. The treatment effect of western medicine in surgery and radiotherapy is exact, especially in the early stage of tumor, but the toxic side effects of surgery and drugs are also positively correlated with the efficacy (i.e. the better the efficacy, the greater the side effects), so please weigh the pros and cons according to the advice of professional physicians. Chinese medicine has a role in improving clinical symptoms, reducing toxic side effects of drugs and improving patients’ quality of life, but do not blindly believe in advertisements or listen to biased beliefs to avoid delaying the disease.
Although the efficacy of Chinese and Western medicine are similar in the treatment of diseases, and we want to keep the body in the most pristine state of health, the pathology of Chinese and Western medicine in the treatment of diseases is indeed very different. The first thing we need to do when treating a disease is to eradicate the cause of the disease, in fact, according to the development of the disease to determine the appropriate method of Chinese medicine or Western medicine to treat the disease.
