The difference between self-ligating brackets and regular brackets is in the method of fixation, the efficiency of treatment, and other aspects such as patient comfort. Self-ligating brackets are simpler to fixate than regular brackets in that the brackets are gently pressed to hold the orthodontic archwires in place, whereas regular brackets require the use of additional wires to secure the brackets to the archwires. Self-ligating brackets are much more efficient and are now gradually replacing conventional brackets. Self-ligating brackets are more comfortable for the patient than regular brackets, and the patient’s oral hygiene can be maintained relatively well. It is recommended that patients choose the appropriate method of orthodontic treatment under the guidance of a doctor.
