Babies born before 37 weeks of pregnancy are considered premature.
Preterm labor is defined as delivery at 28 weeks of gestation but less than 37 weeks. Newborns born at this time are called preterm babies. Preterm babies’ organs are not yet fully developed. The smaller the gestational week of birth, the lower the weight and the worse the prognosis.
Preterm infants, especially those born at <32 weeks of gestation, require good neonatal care, and should be transferred to a hospital with preterm care capabilities (intrauterine transfer) as early as possible. After birth, through active treatment and feeding, if the general condition is good and there are no complications or sequelae, the growth and development will be relatively normal.
It is important to have regular and proper pregnancy checkups to try to avoid preterm birth.
