Differential diagnosis of subxiphoid pain

The pain in the subxiphoid process needs to be differentiated from the following diseases: first, diseases occurring in the heart, especially myocardial ischemia in middle-aged and elderly patients may manifest as subxiphoid pain in the precordial region. The diagnosis can be confirmed by a timely electrocardiogram, and coronary expansion therapy is required. Secondly, some patients are suffering from hypertelorism, which is related to congenital developmental malformation, manifesting localized bulging swelling with pain, especially after eating, leading to aggravation of pain symptoms. If necessary, surgical treatment is required to remove the glabellar process. Thirdly, diseases of the stomach, mainly gastritis or gastric ulcer, can lead to increased pain after eating. The pain may also be accompanied by nausea, acid reflux, belching, and a distinct burning sensation in the upper abdomen, and the pain may improve with timely administration of medications to protect the gastrointestinal mucosa.
