Can facial nerve palsy heal on its own?

Whether facial nerve palsy can heal on its own depends on the severity of the disease and the patient’s physical condition. In most cases, self-healing is difficult and requires timely intervention and treatment. Facial nerve palsy, mainly refers to idiopathic facial neuritis, is a non-specific inflammatory response to the body, due to edema so that the facial nerve canal is compressed, resulting in impaired function, expression muscle paralysis, patients appear shallow forehead lines, crooked corners of the mouth, shallow nasolabial folds and other corresponding clinical manifestations. If the patient has mild symptoms, younger age of onset, and better health, it is possible for this group of patients to heal themselves. However, patients with severe disease and poor physical fitness cannot heal on their own, and it is recommended to seek timely medical attention and active treatment to alleviate the discomfort. When facial nerve palsy occurs, glucocorticoids and B vitamins can be taken under the guidance of a doctor, along with auxiliary acupuncture and rehabilitation physiotherapy, and most patients recover better.
