What is conization surgery

Conjunctomy in clinical practice usually refers to cervical conization, and in a few cases it also refers to laminectomy for spinal lesions. Cervical conization is an obstetrical and gynecological procedure to remove a portion of the cervical tissue in a conical shape from the inside out, which can be used for pathological examination to clarify the nature and extent of cervical lesions, and as a treatment to remove cervical lesions. Cervical conization includes two types of surgery: lip knife conization and cold knife conization: 1. lip knife conization: it is suitable for cases where the nature of the lesion is clear and the extent of the lesion is superficial, generally within the cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2, consider using lip knife conization. The advantages are short operation time, small invasion, quick recovery and no hospitalization. However, the nature of the lesion at the cut edge cannot be clarified. 2. Cold knife conization: the scope of resection is larger, and it is suitable for patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 3 or highly suspected microfocal invasive carcinoma, and the pathology of the cut edge of the lesion can be clarified after resection. However, the operation is more extensive and requires hospitalization. In addition, conotomy if refers to orthopedic vertebral laminectomy, which is generally used to treat vertebral lesions (such as tuberculosis or tumors) occurring in the cervical, thoracic or lumbar spine. If the lesion is extensive and compresses the adjacent nerve, the cone where the lesion or necrosis occurs needs to be surgically removed to treat the disease or relieve the symptoms of compression.
