Cervical conization is the removal of a cone of tissue from the uterine cervix, the base of the cone is the external cervical os, the tip of the cone is directed towards the internal os of the cervical canal, and the height of the cone varies according to the lesion. The cone-shaped cervical tissue removed includes the cervical canal, the area of atypical hyperplasia of the cervix, i.e., the area of squamous-columnar epithelial transformation that is most susceptible to cancer. The main types of cervical conization are cold knife cervical conization and LEEP.
