Gastroesophageal reflux, also known as GERD, GERD may cause symptoms such as a foreign body sensation when taking medicine. It can be treated with medication and surgery under the guidance of a doctor. GERD is a chronic disease in which there is relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter and reflux of gastric contents due to decreased resistance of the esophageal mucosa and other causes. Symptoms such as heartburn, reflux, chest pain, hoarseness, and a foreign body sensation when taking medicine are common. GERD can be treated with acid suppressant, prokinetic and other types of medications as prescribed by the doctor, such as omeprazole, ranitidine, mosapride and other medications; or with surgical options such as fundoplication and gastric fixation. When the symptoms of GERD appear, patients are advised to choose the suitable way of treatment under the guidance of doctors.
