How to treat a wide cerebellar medullary pool

Treatment of widening of the medullary pool of the cerebellum should distinguish between the period of onset, age of onset, and cause of onset. If widening of the medullary pool of the cerebellum under fetal ultrasound occurs in obstetrics, two conditions should be distinguished, one is physiological and the other pathological. Physiologic is a short-term widening that occurs during rapid fetal development when the head does not develop at a rate equal to that of the midbrain aqueduct, and the widening will disappear without treatment as the development process gradually matures. If the widening is due to intrauterine infection or abnormal development, it should be actively reviewed and treated with caution to see if it is necessary to continue the fetal development. Widening of the medullary pool of the cerebellum can also occur in middle-aged and elderly people, possibly due to brain tissue atrophy caused by hypertension, hyperlipidemia or common co-morbidities, diabetes mellitus, etc., and relative widening of the medullary pool of the cerebellum. This makes it possible to reduce the occurrence of brain atrophy only by increasing the exercise of functional brain activities in daily life. It is also possible that brain tumor is compressing the middle cerebral aqueduct causing widening of the medullary pool of cerebellum, which should be characterized as what nature of tumor according to the specialist examination, and the treatment plan such as surgery, conservative chemotherapy and palliative treatment should be decided according to the stage of tumor.
