Adrenal gland abnormalities may lead to secondary hypertension, such as primary aldosteronism, which is caused by increased secretion of aldosterone from the adrenal glands, and may manifest as increased blood pressure, hypokalemia, and muscle weakness. The adrenal glands secrete glucocorticoids, which may also affect the adrenal glands and cause secondary hypertension in patients with Cushing’s syndrome. For hypertension caused by adrenal gland problems, patients should identify the cause and choose surgical treatment or medication to improve blood pressure in the treatment of the underlying cause.
