Vertebroplasty, the full name of which is percutaneous vertebral plasty (PVP), is a common surgical procedure for the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) and spinal vertebral metastasis, which is widely used and the surgical methods and instruments are very mature. Vertebroplasty PVP was first invented by foreign scholars in 1984, and was firstly used for the treatment of vertebral hemangioma, and then gradually expanded to the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) and other diseases. PVP surgery is a kind of local anesthesia surgery, the patient lies prone on the operating table, after local anesthesia, a small incision of 4mm is taken at the posterior fracture, and a special fine puncture needle with a diameter of 2mm is used to enter the fractured vertebral body through the vertebral arch root from the puncture point to establish the working channel. After the establishment of the working channel is completed, about 5 ml of bone cement is injected into the vertebral body through the working channel. After entering the vertebral body, the bone cement quickly solidifies and hardens, fixing the fractured vertebrae and providing good stability and immediate pain relief at the fracture site, with a pain relief rate of 70%-95%. The procedure is very safe and quick, and can be completed in about half an hour. At present, vertebroplasty PVP is mostly applied to patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture, and a small part of it can be applied to patients with spinal bone metastases and vertebral hemangiomas, and a small amount of bone can be biopsied at the same time of vertebroplasty, to further clarify the pathologic diagnosis.PVP surgery has a very good therapeutic effect on bone metastases, and the possible mechanism of treatment, 1 the thermal effect of the cement and the local toxicity can kill the local nerve endings. Toxicity of bone cement can kill local nerve endings, 2 can kill local tumor cells, 3 fixation and stabilization of the vertebral body to prevent further development of the tumor, can effectively improve the patient’s pain, improve the quality of life and prolong the survival period.
