Middle-aged people need to expand their relationships more

Midlife refers to the 35-55 age group. In developmental psychology, midlife is a turning point in the physiological and psychological changes that occur in people, that is, in a process of re-adaptation, if not handled properly, it is easy to have psychological problems. Although middle-aged people are not a high-risk group for psychological problems, it is precisely for this reason that people neglect to pay attention to the mental health of middle-aged people. In view of the psychological characteristics of middle age, Chen Zhimin puts forward some suggestions First of all, it is the physiological re-adaptation. First, physical readaptation. Middle-aged people generally do not pay attention to physical changes and are reluctant to see them, always thinking that they are “still young” or denying the fact of aging. If the middle-aged people can not accept the reality of youth will be gone, will often develop into a general role of resistance to work, spouse, friends, and all the former entertainment to produce a resistance, do not want to participate in or even oppose or stop. Second, the re-adaptation of interpersonal relationships. When people enter middle age, on the one hand, due to work and family reasons, the amount of socializing is reduced a lot compared to when they were young, and the social surface becomes narrow, coupled with the limitations of the social crowd, so the social support system becomes relatively weak, and there is no place to communicate with the difficulties or annoyances, and they cannot get timely support and encouragement; on the other hand, the children become mature, or they study in college or work in other places, so they always feel that they have lost the sense of control over their children and their lives become lonelier than before. They need to adapt to their interpersonal relationships, and more importantly, they need to “expand” their interpersonal relationships. Third, readjustment to work. When people reach middle age, most of them are no longer as impulsive and energetic as they were when they were young, and the pursuit of stability and comfort is the main focus, the decline in enthusiasm for work and the negative state of work will inevitably have an impact on the work. Coupled with the rapid development of society, if the ability to work is not strong, their job functions may soon be replaced by young people or automated instruments, they may be facing their own lack of ability and the crisis of unemployment. Therefore, middle-aged people need to keep “learning” new knowledge and summarizing their work experience. Finally, the re-adaptation of life experience. In the middle age, parents or even older elders may often suffer from illnesses and injuries. On the one hand, they have to spend time and effort to take care of their elders; on the other hand, they may begin to worry about their own physical health problems like them. They will need to develop a new understanding of life and learn to “accept” old age, sickness and death.
