Those old people taught us the art of dental care.

The Chinese have always valued old traditions and customs, and the saying “If you don’t listen to the words of the elderly, you will suffer before your eyes” seems to have become a golden rule. All along, there have been various games between the empiricism of “old people’s words” and science. Often, in my clinic, my lips are broken, science, facts, one by one, clearly stated, but patients or parents listen to, some have not waited for me to finish, there is a sentence “the old man said that after orthodontic teeth will fall out” “the old man said that you can not pull out the teeth, injury to the cerebral nerves! “I heard the old man say that scaling is not good, and it will damage the teeth.” I was so angry that I hurt myself internally, but I could only smile and say, “OK, you should think about it before you come here. After orthodontic treatment, all the teeth in the mouth will be loose and fall off? Maybe the old man will tell you that the teeth can not be corrected, corrected teeth after the teeth will fall out. Then why do they lose their teeth even if they have never had orthodontic treatment? In fact, the teeth themselves can not stay in place for the rest of their lives, the position of the teeth by the lips, cheeks and tongue muscles, periodontal, occlusal influence, in a balance of stability and movement. Orthodontics is the temporary breaking of this balance through external forces to move the teeth. The bone remodeling produced by orthodontics brings about a physiological movement of the teeth, and it is normal for a certain degree of loosening to occur during the process of movement, which is physiological loosening. When the treatment is finished, the teeth move to the new position, the periodontal fiber ligament, bone remodeling and the lip, cheek and tongue muscles will gradually adapt to the new position of the teeth, generally after two years of maintenance phase and return to the balance, to stabilize again. The most common causes of pathologically loose tooth loss are periodontal disease and trauma, independent of whether or not you have had orthodontic treatment. In other words, as long as you maintain good oral hygiene and abandon bad habits as prescribed by your doctor throughout the orthodontic process, your teeth will always serve you well. Will tooth extraction damage the brain nerves? Will you become stupid? The innermost part of each tooth is called the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. Extracting teeth will definitely lead to breakage of nerves and blood vessels in the pulp, but this is not the same thing as the brain nerves, and is even more irrelevant to intelligence. Human intelligence depends on the functioning of the central nervous system, mainly the cerebral cortex, and has little to do with peripheral nerves. In the case of the lower teeth, for example, the pulpal nerve originates from the inferior alveolar nerve. Extraction of teeth, especially the extraction of blocked and ambulatory teeth, may damage the inferior alveolar nerve, and the symptom mainly manifests itself as numbness of the skin on the same side of the jaw, but it usually recovers in about 3~6 months. The human brain directly sends out 12 pairs of cerebral nerves, of which the fifth pair is called trigeminal nerve, which is divided into three strands: ophthalmic nerve, maxillary nerve and mandibular nerve, and one of the branches of the mandibular nerve is the inferior alveolar nerve. When a tooth is extracted, the local blood vessels, nerves and other tissues are severed, but will heal and regenerate. It is as if the roots of a plant are so numerous that you can’t even imagine, and when the small root next to it is injured and dies, many other roots will grow in a short period of time. Will the teeth next to the extracted tooth be loose? No. The extraction of a tooth will not affect the other teeth, nor will it cause the other teeth to loosen. However, it is worth noting that when a tooth is extracted, the surrounding teeth will tend to move toward the space of the extracted tooth because they lose contact with the extracted tooth, so some patients may feel as if the tooth has loosened, which is actually a misunderstanding on the part of the patient. If orthodontic force is applied after extraction, the teeth will move in sequence according to the plan. If neither orthodontic nor restorative treatment is applied after extraction, it will cause tilting of neighboring teeth and elongation of opposing teeth in the long run. Therefore, if teeth need to be extracted for orthodontic treatment, the teeth next to them will not be pathologically loose or shifted because orthodontic treatment will be performed soon. Will there be no teeth to eat after orthodontic extraction? Orthodontic tooth extraction will not affect the chewing function in general. Human beings have 28-32 teeth in total, but as the human diet becomes more and more refined, coupled with the fact that your own teeth are too large, it is very difficult to ensure that there are 32 complete and well aligned teeth. Therefore, instead of keeping 32 crooked teeth that don’t really function and are prone to premature loss, it is better to remove a few to create space for the other teeth to align better, so that what you keep in your mouth are beautifully aligned teeth that are easy to clean and won’t fall out prematurely. After orthodontic treatment, the teeth will be aligned to their normal position and will be able to perform their normal functions, and the chewing function will be improved. You should be reminded that tooth extraction is irreversible treatment, orthodontic patients whether need to extract the teeth correction, is by the orthodontist in the patient’s dental deformity in a comprehensive examination, analysis of the decision, so the patient in the treatment of the former should not blindly listen to no professional knowledge of the staff’s advice, rashly remove the teeth and irreparable losses. Can’t I brush my teeth when I am sitting on the moon? Not only do you have to brush your teeth during menstruation, but you also have to brush them more carefully than usual. As the old saying goes, “you lose a tooth when you give birth to a child”, it is precisely because you don’t brush your teeth during menstruation that your teeth become loose and fall out. During the month, the maternal diet was more abundant, hormonal changes will aggravate the sensitivity of the gums, food debris mixed with a variety of pathogenic bacteria, it is easier to build up plaque, piled up thick is a layer of white scale, and then go on to dental calculus, gum pain, periodontal pockets, alveolar bone resorption, and finally the teeth are loose and fall off. Therefore, during menstruation, warm water, soft-bristled toothbrush, three meals a day, combined with mouthwash and dental floss if necessary. Will scaling damage your teeth? Often heard many people tell others in the capacity of a person who has been there, “Do not wash your teeth, washing your teeth hurts,” “Scaling the teeth to wash the teeth are bad,” “Originally my teeth are very good, after scaling the teeth are often acidic! I have good teeth, but after scaling, my teeth are often sore.” Scaling, is the use of specialized equipment through ultrasonic vibration to the surface of the teeth to remove the dirt, such as soft tartar, calculus, scaling the work head is blunt, will not cause damage to the surface of the teeth. Some people have bad periodontal condition, many years before the first scaling, at this time, often already have gum recession, root exposure exists, thick plaque covered in the exposed root surface, when the plaque washed off, the root of the tooth is directly exposed to the oral cavity, there is a soreness and discomfort, at this time, should be used to prevent sensitivity toothpaste daily cleaning teeth, regular scaling, so as not to have a further buildup of plaque and further gum recession. If left unchecked, the periodontal situation continues to deteriorate, the only final end is loose teeth fall off. As society develops and progresses, we should re-examine traditional culture from a scientific and rigorous perspective. The “dental care techniques” taught to us by those old people may only have been used in pre-liberation China, when few people knew how to take care of their mouths. Since we are born in a good time, we should be rational and scientific, and work hard for our health and the health of our next generation. Please spread the idea of proper dental care!
