Differentiation between ultrasound kidney stones and calcification

For kidney stones and calcified kidneys, ultrasound examination can reveal hyperechoic conditions. However, kidney stones grow in the collecting system of the kidneys, that is, in the renal calyces, renal pelvis, and ureter. However, in human kidney calculi, the specific lesions are mainly located in the renal parenchyma, such as the renal cortex and the renal medulla. Therefore, it is possible to distinguish between kidney stones and calcifications by the difference in hyperechoic sites. Usually, when the body has calcification, there are no obvious symptoms of discomfort, and they are detected by examination. The presence of kidney stones can be judged by the presence of back pain, localized pain, hydronephrosis, renal colic or elevated red blood cells in the urine routine.
