Research related to cerebrovascular diseases

With the development of society, people’s living standard is constantly improving, and the science and technology, medical technology, equipment and level are also undergoing great changes, followed by the extension of people’s life expectancy and the type and structure of diseases are also changing. A large amount of literature at home and abroad reports that eye diseases caused by systemic diseases are increasing year by year, and there is a trend of aggravation, which seriously endangers the vision of patients and affects people’s quality of life. The eye is a part of the body, is the relationship between the local and the whole, if the overall function of the disorder, the local will also show, timely grasp of the local situation, while taking into account the systemic situation, is our new era of medical workers should have the basic professional quality. In our ophthalmology specialty, most of the diseases are caused by systemic diseases, such as: various uveitis, partial cataract, retinal vein obstruction, retinal artery obstruction, ocular ischemia syndrome, optic neuritis, ischemic optic neuropathy, diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy, fundus changes complicated by various blood diseases, fundus changes of hypertensive syndrome in pregnancy, retinal choroidal metastasis cancer, etc. Some of the systemic diseases have no obvious symptoms in the early stage of the systemic disease, but the ocular disorders are found occasionally during the ophthalmological examination. At this time, the whole body related examination should be performed as soon as possible to understand the condition of the primary site, and timely treatment can minimize the damage to the whole body. In recent years, there has been more research on the correlation between fundus disease and systemic diseases, and there are promising results. In our province, we are at the forefront of research in this area within the city. The aging population and the high prevalence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are mostly manifested in the eye as various vascular obstruction and ischemic changes. The main cause of these diseases is atherosclerosis leading to carotid artery stenosis, atheromatous plaque adhesion and dislodgement, the onset of which is closely related to the patient’s age, gender, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease and smoking, which are also factors that lead to atherosclerosis. It has been reported in the literature that when atherosclerosis occurs in the carotid arteries, especially when the degree of stenosis reaches >75%, ischemic lesions can occur in the supply area, and in combination with microemboli and other disease factors, obstructive vascular disease in the supply area can occur at any time. Clinical diseases of the eye mainly include obstruction of various retinal vessels, while brain diseases are mostly seen as ischemic strokes. Patients with ocular disease presenting with visual dysfunction may be overlooked by both the patient and the ophthalmologist if there are no systemic symptoms or if the symptoms are mild, and systemic and local examinations should be performed. If we pay enough attention to this aspect, we can minimize the damage caused by such diseases.
