Is cataract surgery painful?

Conventional cataract surgery is one of the more mature surgical procedures in ophthalmology.

Before surgery: You generally need to be in good physical and mental condition. Keep your blood sugar and blood pressure under control. Your doctor will advise you to use eye drops for three consecutive days to prevent infection.

During surgery: Adults who can cooperate with the surgery will only need local anesthesia or even surface anesthesia to undergo cataract surgery, and they usually do not feel pain in the middle of the surgery. After the surgery, the patient may need to receive an injection of anti-infection medication under the conjunctiva of the operated eye, and some people will feel pain for a short time during this operation.

After the surgery: The eye that was operated on will be covered with gauze on the day of the surgery and opened by the surgeon the next day for an eye examination. If the examination results are normal, thereafter, there is no need to cover the gauze and eye drops need to be ordered. You can usually live a normal life, just be careful not to strain the naked eye and review it regularly.
