Can incorrect posture cause scoliosis?

It is safe to answer that incorrect posture does not cause scoliosis. Incorrect sitting posture, playing with the phone with the head down, these are not the causes of scoliosis. Scoliosis can be divided into congenital scoliosis, idiopathic scoliosis, degenerative scoliosis, and neuromuscular scoliosis according to the etiology. The causes of scoliosis are diverse, and the specific pathogenesis is not completely clear. Its occurrence is related to the patient’s age, neuromuscular function, skeletal development, trauma, and genetic factors, and is generally considered to be caused by a combination of systemic or local factors, with no absolute relationship to posture. Even the slight scoliosis caused is only postural scoliosis. Scoliosis itself is a genetically determined disease and is a common condition in surgery. Correction of scoliosis can be divided into correction by conservative treatment and correction by surgical treatment, with different indications for each type of correction. Scoliosis can be divided into postural scoliosis and structural scoliosis. For patients with postural scoliosis, correction can usually be done by exercising standing posture and correcting posture. For patients with structural scoliosis, surgery is required because of the combination of anomalous vertebrae such as butterfly vertebrae and cuneiform vertebrae, and the main treatment is the implantation of pedicle screws into the posterior vertebrae, and the surgical correction of scoliosis is performed by combining titanium rods.
