Can a natural eye strabismus be corrected?

Most natural eye strabismus can be corrected. Common clinical methods of correcting congenital strabismus include wearing eyeglasses, covering the healthy eye, and surgery.
Different types of strabismus have different correction methods.
1. Congenital strabismus: The refractive status of the eyes should be clarified after dilated pupil examination and glasses of appropriate prescription should be worn. If the strabismus is accompanied by amblyopia in one eye, the treatment of amblyopia through masking therapy is also needed. After treatment, when the vision of both eyes is balanced, surgery is needed to correct it as soon as possible, such as: internal rectus muscle weakening surgery.
2. Congenital external strabismus: this type of strabismus is less common than internal strabismus, and often requires surgical correction, such as: external rectus muscle reduction.
3. Congenital vertical paralysis: such as congenital paralysis of the upper oblique muscle, double upper rotator muscle paralysis, etc. Most of them need surgical correction, and the surgical modalities include: folding of the upper oblique muscle, and posterior migration of the lower rectus muscle.
It is recommended that patients seek medical treatment in time and choose the appropriate correction method according to the different conditions of the patient’s eyes.
