Diabetic foot is mostly seen in people with a history of diabetes for many years, whose usual poor blood sugar control and serious complications are manifested in mild cases as dry and cold skin and calluses on the feet (high-risk feet); in severe cases, foot ulcers and gangrene may develop, eventually leading to amputation. The diabetic foot is a major cause of amputation and disability.
