How often is the Kirschner pin removed from the humeral condyle?

Kirschner pins on the humeral condyle are usually used in younger children or small children who have a fracture on the humeral condyle, and they can be removed between about 1.5 and 3 months. Because fractures in younger children heal more quickly, X-rays can be reviewed after 1.5 months and the pin can be removed if the fracture is in good alignment and healing well, or prolonged if the fracture is not healing well. The child will need to perform joint exercises to prevent adhesions or other problems, so the Kirschner pin should be removed from a supracondylar humerus fracture in about 1.5-3 months, and X-rays will be needed to see how the fracture is healing.
