Patients with Parkinson’s will have some of the following symptoms in the days before they die: 1. Difficulty breathing. Patients have difficulty breathing because of weak coughing and sputum removal and stiffness of the respiratory muscles, resulting in reduced gas exchange and leaving the patient in a state of oxygen deprivation.2. Fever. The vast majority of patients with advanced Parkinson’s disease will develop pneumonia, decubitus ulcers, sepsis, and urinary tract infections, resulting in persistent fever, usually above 38°C, which is difficult to control with medication and sometimes requires temperature control blankets to reduce fever.3. Psychiatric symptoms. Most patients with advanced Parkinson’s disease may have hallucinations, babbling and other mental abnormalities before they die.4. Most patients have muscle atrophy, subcutaneous edema and other signs of malnutrition.5. Some patients may also have sleep-wake cycle disturbance and circadian reversal. In addition, constipation and urinary retention are also common symptoms before death in Parkinson’s patients.
