Cataract Surgery Conditions

Cataract surgery is currently the most routine surgery in ophthalmology, and the surgical method generally refers to cataract ultrasound emulsion aspiration combined with IOL implantation. The conditions for surgery generally include the following: First, there are requirements for visual acuity, generally requiring that corrected visual acuity should be less than 0.5 and naked eye visual acuity less than 0.3 in order to have indications for surgery. Second, the eye cannot have active inflammation, such as conjunctivitis, keratitis, mydriasis, and lacrimal sacitis, which increase the risk of surgical infection and are therefore contraindications to surgery. Thirdly, if there are chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, blood sugar and blood pressure must be monitored and controlled throughout the perioperative period, and it is generally believed that blood pressure should be controlled below 160 mmHg and blood sugar should be controlled below 9 mmol/L. Only then can surgery be performed.
