Is pleural thickening an early stage of lung cancer?

Pleural thickening does not necessarily mean early stage of lung cancer, it may also be caused by infection such as pleurisy or tuberculosis. It is also necessary to clarify whether there are other lesions, mainly whether there are masses in the lung parenchyma. If occupying lung lesions, such as small nodules, are found, it is also important to distinguish benign from malignant. Early stage of lung cancer may show small pulmonary nodules with burr-like periphery, and enhanced CT may show enhancement. Pathology can be obtained through percutaneous lung puncture biopsy or bronchoscopy; if it is not convenient to obtain pathology, thoracoscopic resection of lung nodules can be considered and then pathology can be obtained to confirm the diagnosis. Generally, early stage lung cancer is very effective to be cured by surgery, and after surgery, it can be combined with adjuvant radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other comprehensive treatments.
