How long does it take to recover from gastric polyp surgery

How long it takes to recover from gastric polyp surgery requires a comprehensive consideration based on the surgical method of the polyp and the individual’s disease condition, and cannot be generalized. Gastric polyps are usually found under endoscopy, and according to the pathological characteristics of polyps, adenomatous polyps and hyperplastic polyps are commonly found clinically, the former having malignant potential, while the latter can be removed simply by surgery. Clinically, for small polyps with regular morphology of 1-2 cm, most of them are chosen to be removed under gastroscopy, which is a minimally invasive procedure and usually can be recovered in about 1 week after surgery. However, for larger polyps or broad-based polyps, surgical resection is required, which is more invasive and the postoperative recovery time can be extended appropriately. In addition, the recovery time may be extended to about 2-3 weeks if there are complications such as significant bleeding from the trauma and infection of the incision after surgery. Patients who have undergone gastric polyp removal are advised to undergo gastroscopic review 3 months after surgery, pay attention to eating more light and easily digestible food on a daily basis, and follow up with the general surgery department or gastroenterology department if there is any discomfort.
