The symptoms of extrapyramidal reactions are mainly manifested as movement disorders, of which the most representative diseases are Parkinson’s disease and chorea. Patients with Parkinson’s disease may have reduced random movements, slow movements, muscle and joint tonus, and unstable posture, while patients with chorea are most commonly affected by dance-like involuntary movements. The treatment of Parkinson’s disease is mainly with levodopa and dopamine agonists. There is no specific effective treatment for chorea, and symptomatic treatment is mainly used. Commonly used drugs include dopamine receptor blockers such as haloperidol and chlorpromazine, and central dope-depleting agents such as buprenorphine.
