What are the dangers of gallstone disease?

Cholelithiasis is a stone of the biliary system, including gallbladder stones and bile duct stones. Gallstone disease can cause inflammation of the gallbladder and bile ducts. Patients may experience persistent pain in the right upper or middle upper abdomen, sometimes accompanied by radiating pain in the right side of the shoulder and back, and in severe cases patients may develop chills and high fever, jaundice, or even coma and shock. Therefore, gallstone disease needs to be treated with caution. Single or multiple stones in the gallbladder have certain complications. Single stones are generally larger in size and cannot be easily excluded from the gallbladder, causing inflammatory irritation of the gallbladder wall, and patients are not only in pain, but even have a certain risk of cancer. Multiple stones are generally smaller in size and easily fall out of the gallbladder, but this is not necessarily a good thing. This is because the stones tend to block the pancreatic duct after falling from the gallbladder to the lower end of the common bile duct, leading to acute pancreatitis where the risk of disease is greater. Therefore, cholecystectomy is generally recommended for patients with gallbladder stones, single stones larger than 1 cm in diameter, or multiple small stones, especially for patients with a history of cholecystitis attacks. This is because the gallbladder tends to function poorly in such patients, and keeping the gallbladder means keeping the lesion. Patients need to be careful not to eat too greasy food in their daily life, and should also ensure a regular breakfast routine, which will help avoid the occurrence of stones.
