The causes of functional uterine bleeding are multifaceted, including systemic factors, luteal insufficiency, uterine and endometrial factors, medical factors and other factors.

The systemic factors of functional uterine bleeding include mental trauma, metabolic disorders, endocrine disorders, malnutrition, systemic blood disorders, etc., all of which may cause functional uterine bleeding. Luteal insufficiency is an important factor causing functional uterine bleeding, because poor ovarian luteal function can cause menstrual disorders, while the body’s estrogen level is relatively high and progesterone level is not secreted enough, and the imbalance of the secretion of the two hormone levels can cause functional hemorrhage. Uterus and endometrial factors are also common factors. In some patients, structural and functional abnormalities of small spiral arteries, microcirculatory vascular beds and other tissues can lead to abnormal endometrial steroid hormone receptors and lysosomal dysfunction, and abnormal local coagulation mechanisms and cause meritorious bleeding. In some patients, the dysfunction of prostaglandin txa2 and pg12 secretion may lead to the development of meritorious hemorrhage. Medical factors are mainly due to women taking steroidal contraceptives or intrauterine devices that interfere with the normal HPOU function, leading to the occurrence of meritorious bleeding.
