Amenorrhea is a symptom of a delay in the normal menstrual cycle, both primary and secondary, with secondary amenorrhea being the most common. The pathogenesis of amenorrhea from the TCM point of view is both deficient and real. Kidney deficiency, lack of qi and blood, cold stagnation, phlegm and dampness can all lead to amenorrhea. In the case of kidney deficiency, the main treatment is to tonify the kidneys and regulate the flushing process, such as Cuscuta, Fructus Lycii, Cornu Cervi Pantotrichum and Zizyphus. If there is cold stagnation, the main treatment is to dredge the liver and regulate the qi or warm the menstruation and disperse the cold, such as Blood Mansions and Blood Stasis Soup and Warm Menstruation Soup. In the case of phlegm-dampness stagnation, we need to expel phlegm and remove dampness, for example, Cang Fu Gui Phlegm Tang. Therefore, if the symptoms of amenorrhea occur, we should treat the symptoms according to the cause and mechanism of the disease in order to achieve better results.
