If the pregnant woman is positive for Hepatitis B surface antigen, she should be injected with Hepatitis B immunoglobulin as early as possible within 12 hours after the birth of the newborn and the first dose of Hepatitis B vaccine should be given within 24 hours; and then she should be vaccinated with Hepatitis B vaccine for the second and third doses in the second and sixth months respectively, and be tested for Hepatitis B surface antibody 1-2 months after the whole vaccination. If a pregnant woman has a high Hepatitis B viral load (HBV DNA over 105), it is recommended that she take antiviral medication to lower her Hepatitis B viral load 3 months prior to the birth of her baby to minimize the chance of mother-to-child transmission.
