Best time to operate on gallstones

There is no optimal time for gallstone surgery, and the decision needs to be based on the size of the stones and the severity of the symptoms. Smaller, asymptomatic gallstones can be treated conservatively with lifestyle modifications, regular and light diets, exercise and regular checkups. Most asymptomatic gallstones can be controlled by lifestyle modifications. Symptomatic gallstones will have recurrence of biliary colic and easily cause complications such as biliary pancreatitis and obstructive jaundice, which should be actively treated with surgery as early as possible, such as minimally invasive laparoscopic cholecystectomy. If accompanied by acute inflammation, antibiotics such as amoxicillin, cefuroxime and other anti-infective treatment should be actively used, and after infection control, surgery as soon as possible to relieve the cause of the disease and prevent recurrence. If gallstones are associated with recurrent biliary colic, surgery is recommended to prevent further deterioration of the condition.
